PHA holds general assembly and election of officers


The Philippine Historical Association, the honor and professional association of historians in the country, held its 2009 General Assembly and election of officers last January 31 at the National Historical Institute, T.M. Kalaw Street, Manila.

Mrs. Emelita V. Almosara, Deputy Executive Director of the National Historical Institute presided the election and administered the oath-taking of the newly elected members of the PHA Board of Governors. Elected officers of PHA for 2009-2010 are:

During the assembly, a minute of silence was observed to remember and pray for Dr. Rosario Mendoza-Cortes who passed away recently. Dr. Cortes was former president of PHA and emeritus professor of history in the History Department, UP Diliman.

Before the election, Dr. Celestina P. Boncan, immediate PHA past president, delivered her presidential lecture on Philippine history entitled "Darkness after the Light: RIZAL 1887-1888". A business meeting followed the lecture where President Celestina Boncan, Executive Director Gloria Santos and Treasurer Estrellita Muhi gave their reports on PHA activities, accomplishments and finances, respectively.
